2019 Summer Education Intern

The Farm at St. Joe’s is a national leader in the growing field of hospital-based farming. Our mission is to grow a healthy community by empowering people through food, education, and relationships. As the 2019 Summer Education Intern, you will have the opportunity to teach youth about health, agriculture, and sustainability in a truly unique environment. Program description

Education is a major emphasis of programming at The Farm at St. Joe’s. During the school year, The Farm hosts nearly 1,000 students from Ypsilanti Community Schools for field trips. Over the summer, education is primarily delivered through summer camps. Campers have the opportunity to explore food from seed to stomach, while learning about botany, human health, and environmental stewardship. We also collaborate with community partners throughout the summer to deliver dynamic and innovative educational programming off-site.

 

Roles and responsibilities

  • Staff summer camps, including delivery of inquiry-based education lessons and camper mentorship
  • Participate in educational outreach activities by leading learning activities for children off-site
  • Create new lessons and activities for summer camps and field trips
  • Develop, implement, and improve evaluation tools to assess impact of education program
  • Actively participate in broader Farm programming, including sustainable vegetable production and community events

 

Time period and hours

Flexible start date, May preferred

End date: August 16, 2019

30-40 hour weeks, depending on camp schedule (details discussed during interview)
